The Perfect Weekend Getaway

I know you missed me, because I missed you. I had the most perfect weekend sit down pour a glass of wine or cup of tea and get ready.

So way back in February, the tri-state area was hit hard with back to back snowstorms and it sent me into a whirlwind of seasonal depression. My mood was on a dramatic rollercoaster every day and I yearned for sunny days, sand and blue waters. Impulsively, I booked a $100 round trip flight to Fort Lauderdale, Florida that was set to land on Saturday, April 10th and had a return flight for Sunday April 11th. My family and friends all thought I was crazy but I knew I didn’t need much; just a few hours engulfed in the scene to shift my energy (hey Erika). I won’t lie, being that I booked the trip so long ago, I almost forgot about it, the snow here melted away and I was looking forward to our spring season. I’m sure we can all agree that this year is flying by already so April popped up on with great surprise. Let’s go ahead and dive into my quick relaxing trip to the Miami - Hollywood Beach getaway.

The Beginning

I arrived at the airport around 4am on Saturday 4/10 to board my 6am flight, this was my first time back at the airport since the COVID-19 outbreak and I was apprehensive to say the least. I was pleasantly surprised that there was barely anyone there and TSA was a breeze. Once I arrived to my gate I kicked up my feet, downloaded my favorite podcasts and talked on the phone with my special someone. The flight itself was around 2.5 hours long and I had middle seat… I wish you could hear my excitement (not). When I landed, my friend Richie was there to pick me up and we headed to the Hollywood Beach to meet up with my bestie Briah at the Airbnb.

When we arrived at where I would be sleeping for the night, I immediately showered and changed into something a bit more appropriate for the weather, dropped my curls and was ready to hit the scene. We drove into Miami which took us about 35 mins or so. Once in Miami, we met up with my other friend Jaida and her good girlfriend Stephanie and began a walking quest for some breakfast/brunch. We ended up discovering a place called Palace, went up to the rooftop and ordered brunch, it was a bit pricey $45 for a limited selection however it was just us 5 and the view so it kind of made it worth it. After brunch we split up and Briah and I went to go dip our toes in the infamous South Beach. Miami was most definitely crowed and gave off a vibe I didn’t quite expect. Speaking of crowds, COVID was very much so on my mind the entire time - I don’t think I will be traveling until I’m vaccinated because traveling with the mask is a struggle.

The Middle

Even though COVID was top of mind, I still enjoyed exploring a new city. Richie took us to such a bomb spot tucked away called The Backyard. It was such a vibe and own mini oasis - I was in love. I went to the bar grabbed a pina colada and sat by the pool and enjoyed my friends.

We left the backyard around 5pm and headed back towards Hollywood Beach, grabbed dinner on the board walk and headed in early, I was super exhausted after a long fun filled day.

The End

Briah and I woke up super early to watch the sunrise, it was incredible and soul calming. I am a true believer in ocean therapy - for once nothing mattered. We set our intentions for the rest of the year and enjoyed the serene peace the ocean offered. We grabbed some breakfast at a local coffee shop and headed back to our hotel to eat at the rooftop pool.

After we wrapped up breakfast, we got dressed for the day and went back to the boardwalk and beach for drinks and lunch. It was the perfect Sunday and I thoroughly enjoyed my weekend. I don’t regret the trip and amount of time one bit - I’m learning to trust myself and do exactly what I want when I want. It’s a beautiful thing. I must say, this trip I felt my age, I am so blessed to be able to take care of myself and treat myself to new experiences whenever I feel like it.
