How I Became an Associate Wedding Planner

I consider myself a true hopeless romantic. Simply put, I love love - even though in my adult life I’ve never been in love or a relationship, I’m not giving up hope. In the meantime, I find pleasure in falling for other couples love stories until my chapter begins. In today’s blog I’m going to tell the story of how I became an Associate Wedding Planner. This job is so fitting for me and my personality. Pour a glass of wine or cup of tea and let’s get into it!

The Beginning

It all started back in 2016, I came across an ad for event volunteers needed for an event called Beats N Baskets - New York’s hottest summer wine, music and picnic festival! The event was produced by Neakai and Melissa and after reading the qualifications I knew that I needed to be a volunteer. I did so much research on these two ladies and looked up to them instantly. I ended up getting selected as a volunteer and I was SO excited, I wasn’t in the best mental space at the job I worked and this was the perfect pick me up. I was ready to werk. After the event, I was fortunate to work with Neakai again this time on weddings.

Thank you Neakai for introducing me to the wedding industry, I’ll always be thankful for you.

Melissa, thank you for believing in me, from the very beginning you took me under your wing I can’t wait to see all the magic we make next year.

Neakai ended up moving to the west coast (I promise I’m still coming to visit) soon after she popped back over to the east coast and sent an invite to meet up. I felt so honored, I had thoughts run through my head like “little ole me”, “omg she likes me”. Again, my excitement went through the roof and I adjusted my schedule to ensure that I could attend. When the night came, I sat directly across from another woman that would change my life as I knew it.

The Middle

That night, I sat across from Victoria we initially bonded off of being hungry (that fake chex mix though). I remember Neakai pulling me to the side and whispering in my ear (you’re sitting next to Victoria, make sure you connect with her). I looked her up on Instagram and was like no way she’ll never work with me. Her work was outstanding. I followed Neakai’s suggestion and decided to formally introduce myself. We hit it off, I felt like I knew her forever and thankfully we exchanged information.

I started as a Day of Assistant with Victorious Events NYC in August of 2016 and I fell in love with the hustle and bustle of these precious wedding days. It truly makes my heart flutter.

As most of you know in August 2017, I was departed from my employer - I was at a standstill. Later that fall, Victoria knew that I had loads of time on my hands and asked if I would want to complete freelance administrative projects for her. I said yes without hesitation.

The Now

In January of 2019, I was promoted to Associate Planner I now work directly under Victoria for many of our couples and it brings me so much joy. I’m so grateful for this opportunity and every task that I’m trusted with I take to heart. Even though our next wedding isn’t until 2021 I still wouldn’t choose this virtual position over a thing.

V, I think I tell you all the time but in case I haven’t this month I’m eternally grateful that our paths crossed you mean everything to me.
