WFH - It Just Got Real

In full transparency this was not a planned blog post. My company announced today that we will be working from home for the remainder of 2020. I expected this decision, however it still feels a bit unreal. I am fully adjusted to working from home but it would be a lie if I said I didn’t miss going into the office (very pretty office might I add) every day. In today’s blog I’m digging into some details regarding my day job.

What I miss

I miss seeing my co-workers the most, our beautiful office space and the outdoor deck. I use to love going out back to enjoy my lunch especially on cooler summer days. Now that COVID is here, the next best thing is using Zoom to communicate and “see” each other. It helps, but nothing like the real thing.

What I don’t miss

I don’t miss the commute; I live 40-45 mins away from work and I lease my car. I am saving a bunch of mileage and I am grateful for this opportunity. If we are being honest, I also don’t miss waking up early, with a 0-minute commute I am loving the luxury of indulging in the extra minutes of sleep. It feels amazing.

What’s working

Being that I’m in my space by myself, I am able to turn on my music and zone into my work on a day to day basis. I enjoy the quiet too so that is especially nice. I also do not feel the need to multitask as much. I stick to one task at a time, and throughout the day knock everything off.

What’s not working

My WFH set up is not working, the chair I have is the devil. I think it was about $15 bucks from Walmart and it is not supportive. I am now on the market for a new chair and portable desk. Right now, I’m working off of the utility table my grandmother gifted me. This is going to be stuff to style (new desk and chair) because my studio is tiny. Whatever I decided I will be sure to share it with you all.

Are you working from home? If so how are you adjusting?
