A Day In Venice, Italy

Call me crazy but one of my top favorite things about my trip to Paris was going to Venice! A few months ago, I had a very spontaneous idea of going to another European country while in Paris. It’s super easy to travel because everything is so close on that side of the world (lol). When we started to look at flights to Venice from Paris it was a no brainer, they were so cheap and the flight was only one hour long. Being that we live in New Jersey it usually takes us an hour to get into the city (New York) so we jumped at the opportunity. After taxes our flight to Italy cost a little over $64 dollars, we were PUMPED!

On October 8, 2019 we left our Paris apartment at 6 am in the pouring rain and headed to the airport, it was so cold and dreary we couldn’t wait to catch some sun! We flew Easy Jet and the plane was definitely on the smaller side but we made the best of it and certainly wasn’t on the plane for long. Landing in Venice, it kind of set in that we only had about 7-8 hours to spend and we had no clue on what we were actually going to do.

At this point, we kind of just followed the crowd and I spotted a public transportation hub and grabbed a map. Briah led the conversation basically trying to get the attendant to stir us in the most touristy (I know that’s not a word haha) location possible. It worked - we opted to get a round trip water taxi ride for 27 euros and off to San Marco we went.

Venice is literally a city developed on water, everything transportation wise depends on your choice of boat, or speed boat. Traveling on the water boat taxi and taking in all the sites plus the sun was just what the doctor ordered. I felt so incredibly blessed and relaxed it was an amazing feeling. We kept repeating over and over “Omg we are in Italy”! Once we reached San Marco at 12pm, we secured and scheduled a Gondola ride at around 2pm. At this point, we were starving and strolled to find an open restaurant that looked appealing. We settled, on an outdoor eatery front and center looking over the water. We decided to order to dishes to share and I’m so glad we did. Coming to the table we had a margarita pizza and fresh pasta dish. OMG! It was easily one of the top 5 meals I’ve ever had. The food had flavor that was so compelling I found myself inspecting it almost haha.

When lunch was over we shopped for souvenirs to bring back home for our families and we walked back to experience our Gondola ride. What a sight to see, to witness how the locals live and hear the rich history that embarked in that area was so fulfilling. This day is truly one I will never forget, it felt like I was on set of a movie or a post card that had came to life. I can honestly say that I don’t think we wanted to leave and I most definitely can’t wait to go back!
